Welcome to smycms.com

The website of The Smycms.

The Smycms have been in existence since 1963, staging musical shows every year since. From small beginnings in the church hall of St. Michaels Church, Edinburgh with Swingalong, they finally arrived on the Edinburgh Am Dram scene in 1973 when they staged Fiddler On The Roof at the Church Hill Theatre .

“Renew, release, let go. Yesterday’s gone. There’s nothing you can do to bring it back. You can’t “should’ve” done something. You can only DO something. Renew yourself. Release that attachment. Today is a new day!”

Steve Marboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience.

SMYCMS IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

We have almost completed the clearing out of our Costume Wardrobe, when this is completed we will be one step away from officially announcing that The Smycms will be closed for business as an amateur musical society. Our last full production was Bugsy Malone staged in 2010. We have had a few attempts since then to kick start the company but to no avail. So here we are at that moment in time when you have to finally admit that its all over and that all that’s left are the photos and the memories.

Tony McDonald.

Editor.

23rd July 2016

We are  on the look out for any memorabilia that you might have, old photographs, programs covering the period 1963 until 1988. We are also trying to compile a list of on stage appearances for this period as well, we have already completed a list for the period 1989 to 2010, so if you are reading this and you appeared in a Smycms show  from 1963 to 1988 or you know someone who did then please drop us a line.

An Easy Way To Raise Funds

It’s like nectar but instead of earning points, each purchase generates a donation. It’s completely free to use and your shopping won’t cost you a penny more.

On average, each retailer will donate 5% of the cost of your shopping – and those donations soon mount up.

So whatever you need to buy, from your weekly grocery shop or fashion must-have, to your business travel, office supplies or mobile phone, buy it via easyfundraising and raise money for The Smycms at no extra cost to you!

Logged on to book a couple of tickets for the show in April – and was very sad to read about its cancellation.
As a past (very past!) member, it would be such a shame to see SMYCMS disappear from the Edinburgh am dram circuit, especially in its pre- 50th Anniversary year (has it really been that long..?!) So good luck with organising a concert – I hope you receive lots of support!

As an original member I would like to be advised of the 50th anniversary celebrations. I would think that a karaoke/singalong of songs from the smycms shows would be worth a whirl. It could also be used as a tribute to Paul if the songs which he performed over the years were done as a centre piece.Perhaps some of the originals could be persuaded to take part.
